The club is sad to announce the death of Ian Edgar at the age of 83. Ian was a member of the club during the mid-1950s until the early 1960s and was the first Border City Wheelers member to ride a 25-mile time trial in under 60 minutes in 1958 with a time of 59min 44sec, which at the time was an outstanding achievement. He set the record on the L1 course based on the A6 north of Preston. He was also club champion that year and the previous year had established a club record for 15 miles in 35min 26sec.
Ian set the benchmark for following generations of BCW members, who have continued to strive to “beat the hour”.
Ian’s funeral will be at Carlisle Crematorium at 2.20pm on Monday 21st January.
